Most memorable job experience: Nelson remembers a Fort Knox soldier treated at his office who
was able to walk after enduring more than eight months of pain and difficulty.
Toughest job in health care today: “It is always difficult seeing people every day who suffer in so much
pain just to accomplish normal daily activities. I believe that every person is
entitled to live a quality and productive lifestyle despite what health
challenges they may face.”
What he would change about the
health care industry: Nelson thinks everyone should have the access and right to quality and
competent health care without restrictions from outside entities.
Why he chose his career: Nelson was motivated to go into
health care and specifically into the area of pain management after seeing many
of his loved ones diagnosed and struggle with their own health challenges, with
limited options for relief.
Hometown: Louisville
Off-job interests: Photography, church activities, sports
How he stays in shape: Water exercise and a healthy diet

1/14/2013 Complaint:
A request was sent to Bluegrass Pain Consultants at the beginning of October
requesting a copy of complete records as well as an itemized billing statement.
Understanding physician offices are extremely busy and can get behind in
processing medical records I waited until December to contact the office about
this issue. I contacted the office on December
19, 2012 and left a message with the answering service since you
cannot contact the office directly and never received a return phone call. I
contacted the office twice again on December
27, 2012 and still no return phone call. This is not the first time
I have had this issue with this office. I had to contact them numerous times
about the fact that they were holding my claim and about to miss the timely
filing deadline for my insurance, which would leave me responsible for the
entire bill, before they returned my phone call and submitted my claims. The
customer service and complete disregard to patient care or satisfaction is
frightening. Clearly this office has a complete lack of compassion for
patients. The office is staffed extremely well and there is no reason why
phone calls shouldn't be returned or why a medical records request shouldn't be
completed after almost three months.
Desired Settlement: I would like a phone call from the
office manager immediately. I want to know why the office simply does not
care about patients and why my requests have not been processed after
almost 90 days. I need my medical records and billing statement request
processed immediately. Every day that passes in which I do not receive a phone
call and/or my request is not processed I will be filing a complaint.
2/26/2013 Complaint: My mother is a patient of Bluegrass Pain Consultants - medication management only. ******* *****. Springs office. She has dementia, so I do the calling and scheduling for her. She has an appointment on February 7, 2013 @8:40 AM. My mother absolutely does not want to go that early, so, on Feb. 5th, I called @ 8:19 AM to change the time and/or day. I called again in the afternoon. No one returned my call. They use a call center and calls and requests are forwarded to the appropriate office. This appointment is a 2 week follow up with a nurse practitioner because Mom's meds were changed a bit. Because I had not received a return call, I called again on Feb 6th at 8:22 AM to change the appointment time and/or day. I got the same response, plus, I was told that their is no guarantee that the call will be returned same day or even the next day. WHAT???? This is a doctor's office!! At 8:50 Am on the 6th, I received a call reminding my Mom of her appointment the next day. I told her I needed to change it, so she put me through to the front office. I got voice mail and left my message. I was so very angry by this point. As of 9:55 AM, no call has been returned. I called once again at 9:02 Am to cancel the appointment and I told the person at the call center I need to reschedule and I need a call back. We had better not be charged for the visit because I called 20 minutes too late to be a full 24 hours. This is absolutely reprehensible! It is impossible to speak to the office directly. I have never had an experience like this with any doctor's office. Ever.
Desired Settlement: I want this office to return my calls the same day I call. I want this office to take calls directly. I want this office to consider the patient and the person on the phone over money!! Their practice is way too large and unmanageable, if they cannot do this.

I am only giving two stars because I actually
like Dr. Young. If I could give zero stars for the rest of the staff I would.
After receiving my first injection, I was sent home with no meds. After about
12 hours I was in the worst pain i can ever remember feeling. Called the next
day and was told someone would call me. 3 days go by, no call. I called back on
the fourth day, (still in sever pain) finally was able to get something for
pain. Went for a checkup almost 3 months later, Dr asked if I needed any refills
on my meds, I did not but she said when I do, just call in and they will
contact the pharmacy... Sounds great. So after second injection I absolutely
needed that refill, we this time it took a full week of calling before anything
was accomplished. At the time of my second injection, I was not given any
notice of when my next appointment would be. About a month ago (3 months after
my second injection, I get a phone cal reminding me of an appointment that I
was not aware of. I explained I could not leave work on such short notice. Was
told someone would call me right back to reschedule. Never called... I called
after day 4 asking for a return call. One week later, no luck. Two weeks later,
no luck. Three weeks later, no luck... On the forth I went into the office to
make the appointment in person. At this time i was told that the next available
time was more that 2 months away. But I was told that they would again have my
meds refilled since it would be so long before I could get back in. Fine.... 4
days later go to the pharmacy to pick up supposed meds, and the Dr s office
never called. I called back to the office to ask why, they said they would that
day. Never happened, called back today and was told that I did not show up to
my original appointment which I did not make and asked to reschedule so that
ment they could not refill anything..... This staff and answering service are a
joke! I think there is zero communication between the two. I would chose
somewhere else if you are looking into this place, I wish I would have read
info like this before I started there. Also I go for nerve block shots, not
because I want pills, so save you comments.

They herd cattle, not treat people. The persons answering the phone are almost robots. They literally pick up the line and say "first name. Last name. Phone #. Doctor. Campus. Problem." That's it. If you try and interrupt them to actually have a polite conversation, forget it. Absolutely not enough time with PA. They have no interest in actually trying to solve any problems. They just want to do injections and spinal cord stimulators (which is where they get all their money). They hate answering questions, and never look you in the eye when you are speaking;just writing in the chart. And forget about them actually looking at your spine or heavens forbid, touch it! — posted on February 27, 2013

meet the doctor the one time he was rude to me. Asked if I liked cats or dogs I
said dogs! He said I hate dogs ! I would not recommend this place you call them
and get no return call for days they take a message. And ask your name, fob and

I have had an overall good
experience with Dr. Nelson and his staff. What people need to understand is
that with the nature of the practice, there are going to be longer waits and
less flexibility with appointments and scheduling. House bill 1 and people who
have abused the system are also flooding pain management practices with
patients who truly could be managed in primary care, but PCP's are too scared
to manage chronic pain anymore (and there are many PCP's very capable of this).
His staff has always been very friendly, and I have not had any real issues
getting treatment I need. I am someone who wants to use multiple approaches to
manage my condition, and not just rely on medication alone. I felt I should
speak up for the practice, they are like everyone else working in healthcare
these days, stressed and overworked with little appreciation by the public.

This has got to be one of the
worst places anyone can go for pain. The clinic is nice but the staff and even
most of the Nurse practitioners are terrible. There is no bedside manor and
they don't want to hear you or listen to what you have to say. They act as if
they are back in the hood. There is no professionalism there at all. I only
have one question how does one doctor see over 800 patients. I have never met
him or even talked to him. I don't even know what he looks like. If you want a
pill that is where to go but that is all they are good for. Oh and I have even
gotten shots in the wrong area because they will not read an MRI and they DO
NOT listen to surgeons or any other doctors that treat you. I will be
researching other doctors to see where I might be able to go.

His office could be the
biggest trainwreck and most unorganized mess I have encountered in 15 yrs in
the healthcare industry. If you need to confirm and appointment or change
something you must go to the office. They will not not return phone calls. They
scheduled me for 3 procedures that my wife had to rearrange her schedule to
drive me to...only to be told that I had made a mistake and I was not having a
procedure that day. His old partner (Dr Young) was great but theres a reason Dr
Young left. This place is a trainwreck and if you have any other options avoid
this place like the plague.
CONSIDERING DR NELSON?.....RUN
Nov 10th, 2012
I have been a patient of Dr
Nelson for 3 years & seen him 4 times....1. first visit really liked him.
2. ask to see him 3. visited me in the hospital when have pump test 4. got
chewed out because I took medication like his assistant told me to & he
would not hear my side of the story. He wanted me to get a pump earlier in my
visits but I wasn't ready for that. I decided to go with it in April 2011. That
was the smarted thing I did. Anytime I try to call the office I would get the
answering service or I would dial an ext that his assistant gave me. Dr Nelson
lied to me because he said that I should never be in pain that he would take
care of that. In May I told Nicole that my pump was not work correctly because
I was in more pain. She assured me that it was that I was doing more but I
wasn't. I was only taking 10mg of Oxycotin with my pump, I was almost there. In
June the pain was worse so they had an MRI done at Highfield MRI. The next week
I was told I need a more intese MRI because they couldn't see what was going on
for sure. I was then told that either the cath had come out of the spinal canal
or there was a crenk in the tube. They could have to revise it but Dr Nelson
didn't do surgery any more (I would love to know why) but Dr Young is in the
practice now & he will do it. They finally got me in to see Dr young. My
appt was for 8:00 but I wasn't able to make that appt so I called to
change it to the afternoon. After I went back to get ready to see the Dr I was
told that "he didn't see new patients in the afternoon, that is why I made
you appt for 8." When I called to reschedule I was never told that &
surely they could see I was a new patient to him. She was very very rude to me.
She tried to trick me up trying to put words in my mouth. She was in a hurry
& didn't want to bother with me. Ever since I took the meds like Nicole
told me to I have been treated like a drug user & I am far from that. I
have begged to get off this stuff because I am so scared of it. I made another
appt for I think the next week or two & when I was called back I was told
that he was leaving the practice & Dr Nelson would have to do the surgery.
Because of the pain I was in Dr Nelson put me on 120mg of Oxycotin per day. I
told them it was hurting my stomach so they cut it in half. That wasn't helping
much so they gave me some break through meds of 10mg of Oxycodone to take in
between. Nelson's office said they were trying to find me a dr. I know I am
damaged goods & no one wants another persons mistakes. I have
called &
called to see when I was going to another dr but of course no return
call.
Finally they said that Dr Unick was going to take me & waiting for
an appt.
I called & called again. They finally said that he decided not to
take me
& they were looking for another. I called for my MRI records &
when
they came it said that they couldn't see the tip but it could be behind a
screw
a CT Scan would be helpful to find it. Was that mentioned by Bluegrass?
NO. I decided to help the office out because they were taking
forever. I reached a dr that said if I got my records to them he could
let me
know by that afternoon if he would take me. I let a message of course to tell
them to send my records to Dr Nair. Amazingly the next day I get a call. Dr
Unick decided to take me now. Did I want my records sent to Nair or
Unick? I
told them I didn't know either dr so which ever he wanted to. They said
they were
waiting on an appt with Unick. Later I called to tell them I wanted my
records
for myself. I called every day except Thurs. I needed a new script also.
I
would pick them up on Fri to call & say it's ok. I know they are
closed on
Fri but I had picked up scripts before. I drove 42 miles on way &
they were
closed. I left a message if they would have returned my call I would
have
known. I would be in on Mon to get the scripts & records to call me.
I even
sent a fax on Mon that I was leaving work at 4:00 to call & let me
know. I received a call about 5:30 at home saying the scrips were ready.
I ask about the
records but she said she wasn't done because I had 3 folders. I
understood.
Bobbie said that she had sent my records to Unick Fri. Wasn't that
suppose to be
done a while back? I ask if they would be done on Thurs? She said they
should
so my husband drove 42 miles to get the scripts & records but guess
what,
they weren't finished with the records. I ask Bobbie when I spoke to her on Mon
evening if I had done anything to the office because they were treating me like
a drugey? She said that they are just so busy because they are growing so fast.
If a Dr is growing so big that he can't take care of his patients then he
doesn't need a big practice. I feel there is something that was said. I went to
Unick & I really like him. He ask if they put saline in my pump. NO! He
would only have to replace the tubing but now they whole pump. How smart is
that for people who work with pumps? They are to call when my records are
completed but my husband said, "you're going to call me like the lady was
going to call me 2 weeks ago?" I have so much more to write but you get
the picture. I do not recommend that office for even a snake & I despise
snakes. Oh, snakes wouldn't need to go to Bluegrass because it may get mixed up with the rest. I don't know if I am
allowed to put my name but I would be proud to put my name ....Cindy P'Pool,

His
physician assist spoked to him and she tells me nothing he can offer and refers
me to another pain clinic |

I was grossly disappointed
in Dr Nelson today during a so called new patient appointment. I was seen by
his physician assistant. After explaining to her in great detail of my RSD that
has spread to right side of body, she left the room and told me Dr. Nelson
would be in to see me. Then she returned and told me she spoked to Dr. Nelson
and he said their is noting he can offer me, gave me an handout of OTHER pain
doctors and therapist. She told me the pain I have had in my leg since Feb
could be a blood clot, may benefit from a block by OTHER pain doctors, not
interested in seeing me back, totally brushed me off WITHOUT seeing me. I told
the physician assist that Dr. Loeb (ortho) and Dr. Kirkpatrick (RSD Institute who
dx me) thought I would benefit from a block. They did not care about me. I am
an RN and know anoumously amount of wrongs that happened today. Expected
reasoning: injury at work, a workers comp, now passport because I have not
worked since injury, or as poor reviews which I should have not approached to
see me but I researched Dr. Nelson and he has great knowledge of RSD knowing
thats hard to find after seeing two neurologist who stated RSD does not spread,
obviously old text book. In conclusion, perhap, I was not a canidate for his
spinal stim pump for his research as evidence by two charts on receptionist
desk marked "pump" on the front of the chart as many reviews support
my findings. No I do not take narcortics which does not help nerve pain. I just
take neurontin. Dr. Nelson: I am grossly disappointed in your non bedside
manners who could not even put head in my room. Obviously you dont care about
your fellowshiping with Dr "W", well know RSD researcher, who you
claim you worked. Please remove that part out of your website bib of yourself,
it is misleading. My suggest to new patient who has hit bottom low and looking
for help, seek elsewhere. Ison

I have been in pain ever
second of every day since, 7 1/2 years ago (age 43) I had a brain aneurysm
rupture & 3 strokes. In 6 years of going to Dr. Nelson I have seen him one
time. The staff is very condescending & couldn't care less about the
patients! In the last two weeks I have called 7 times (answering service are
the only ones you ever can talk to) no return phone call! I have been on 2
class 2 narcotics since my brain injuries and they have put me thru withdrawal,
cold turkey,3 times so far! ,the medical assistant said that I put myself in
that precarious position! I have found a different Doctor & have very high
hopes but I won't have enough meds to make it to my appointment & Dr.
Nelson's staff won't even return my calls!
Wish Staff was nicer.

Wish staff was nicer,and i
wish they would explain the rules a little better. Also you have to sign a
contract.Im cool with that but, after goign more than a year you can forget
some things on the contract and not mran too.I think they should have us resign
our contracts and explain the rules every six months. Its hard to know what we
can do and what we cant, who we can see and who we cant and also other
medication.I would not get the same medication that he gives me but, if im
taking pain meds and i sometimes take a nerve pill do i have to call them and tell
them?Do i wait until my next appt?Do i say sometimes i take 3 nerve pills a
month and sometimes i take none a month it just depends on if i have a panic
attack?I mean really.I just get confussed on the rules i dont want to break
them.
Methadone
This Dr got me hooked on
methadone and when I had the audacity to request a medication change because my
stomach was all torn up, he threw me out of his office. I had been a patient of
his for over 2 years and thought it was a reasonable request. He apparently thought I was questioning his
authority and wouldn't even discuss my concerns with me. Thank God for my GP
, who worked with me through methadone withdrawal - otherwise, I probably would
have lost my job & my home. Nobody should have to go through that because
of a DR's ego.

This doctor is horrible,
he is so rude, waited close to fours hours. He was just nasty, cut you off in
the middle of sentence was combative with my husband. I'm back to work full time and I have a doctor who
listens and shows a little compassion. My question is why are people commenting
that anyone on here is just looking for pills. There are far more negative
comments on here that are in regards to his rudeness and time of wait, so
what does that have to do with being pill heads. This doctor had an anger problem and he needs to be
evaluated and I strongly agree with the previous post that he writes his own
prescriptions because I thought the exact same thing. Just because we
want a nice doctor who listens and does not act like a jerk does not mean we
are all pill heads.
Nice man!!

I was in an accident that
involved a moped and a truck...I was on the moped. I felt as if I was crunched
up and unable to move ANY part of my body. I was also Very scared as I have
never been to a Pain Mgt. place before and never had injections. Lucky for
me,they worked! I've heard they don't work for everyone so it's a decision one
has to make. I am walking and can actually move my body now. As far as
recommending injections,it's a self decision. I'm glad I did. I still have a
lot of pain as I was hit from behind and landed on back and head(no helmet).
Hope to one day to be at least 90% better,I'd be HAPPY with that. Thank you Dr.

Hi I am reading these
comments and I must say these people are crazy!! I have been a patient of Dr.
Nelsons for about 5 years and he is most caring and compassionate doctor. when
I went to him I was on so many pills i was still hurting and didnt know why i
was taking them and i could barely get out of bed.when i went to him he was
upfront and honest and told me these pills were doing more harm than good. he gave
me some procedures and adjusted my meds. i now work full time and can have a
social life.i owe it all to him! those of you complaining are probably pills
heads and are mad because he won't give them and he tells you like it is.

This doctor was very rude.
He seems to have that god like complex some doctors seems to acquire over their
careers. The office staff are very unhelpful, and they never return your calls.
You can not get a staff member on the phone when you call and must leave a
message with an answering service even during the daytime hours. They are
closed on Fridays which can be an issue if you need medication and not able to
get a return phone call in a full week. The Doctor is very judgemental and
thinks he knows everything and doesn't allow your family to be a part of your
health care. He is nasty to your spouse and then demands them to be respectful
to him or he will discontinue to see the patient. He said to my husband that he
(my husband) needs him that he (the doctor) doesn't need him....my husband has
a medical device that is implanted and he can and will become ill if a Dr. does
not service this and he knew this and still acted in this way......I WOULD
NEVER RECOMMEND THIS DOCTOR TO ANYONE not even my worst enemy!!!!! People are
not bad for needing the help of medication when they injure themselves and
should never be treated as if they are. If you need a doctor following a
serious injury then please make your recovery easier for you and your family
and find a doctor that has a heart and the ability to uphold his medical creed

After two hours of waiting,
I walked out. The nurse caught me right before I left and said he was ready to
see me. Definitely thinks he's all that and more. Plays games, it seems. My first thought was that he was writing his own
prescriptions. I have a procedure
tomorrow and I'm scared after reading all this. If he's over an hour late, I'm
leaving. If his hands shake or he's rude, I'm out of there. Scary. Oh,
like everybody else, I call and leave messages and nobody calls me back. I
think the staff takes on the personality of the doctor. I can't believe what I
have read; that he yells at people. It stuns me. My only hope is that he's
right on his diagnose. After 3 years of searching for an answer to my pain, he
comes up with something. I pray it goes well tomorrow.

Initially I was impressed
with his intelligence and excited to see a doctor that might be of help to me.
Unfortunately, I've only seen him 2x in almost 2 yrs, and see PAs
instead, and 3 different ones at that. They seem to not communicate with one
another or even take/read their own office notes. I wait in his office for 3
hrs, to be seen for 10 minutes. The staff was pushing me to have a
spinal cord stimulator put in, because he is doing research on it; when I
refused over and over, they stated there were no other options for me besides
oxycontin. I'm smart enough to know that isn't the case. I'm so frustrated with
his office that I have to find another doctor who will listen and won't have me
wait so long to be seen. I assumed pain mgmt doctors would understand that
chronic pain pts. can't sit in a waiting room indefinitely...we're in pain!
Please save yourself time and money and find another doctor to see!

The Worst I"ve ever

hrs in an exam rm. that was dirty, black dirt in corners, splatter marks on
walls, and no ventalation. After 2 hrs nurse came in and I asked for water(I
started feeling sick along with back pain). She gave me 2 oz. of water. 2
hrs later Nelson comes in and within 15 seconds, refused to help me. He
didn't know why I was there and when I asked him if he knew why I was there,
he became irate and walked out. His head nurse was rude as culd be. NEVER

I was written a prescription during my August 22, 2011 appointment. I was due to turn this prescription into the pharmacy on September 2, 2011 which I did. The insurance company required a routine PA in order to
fill the quantity prescribed. I tried, in vain, to reach the office and at this
point it has been 10 days and the office has continued to give me NO response
to in excess of 30 messages left. They have not contacted my insurance company
or my pharmacy. They will not return my calls and the medication
specifically states that it should not be discontinued cold turkey. I have
a disease that causes chronic pain and am also on chemotherapy. I am in such
physical and emotional distress having no pain relief, and it leaves me
feeling totally helpless not being able to talk to anyone but the answering
service, who can't answer anything or help with anything. I will definately be
looking for a different doctor
Where are you

The overall experience is
ok, but it seems that the doctor has taken on too many patients. I have only
seen Dr. Nelson one time. I always see the assistants and tey say I need
medicines, but I struggle every month to get my meds filled on the right day.
Also, when you call, the office staff is VERY rude if you try to find anything
out about their mistakes even when you are nice. They were great until they
moved.

very cocky and sure of

listen to patient. Did meds, injections physical therapy..everything asked of
me to help my problem...everything did help to an extent, but when I
realized I was going to have to quit my job that I loved (I'm an RN)
because of my problem, I was upset and tearful...he got mad at me and told
me I was acting like someone died!! I responded that, "yes, my job
I've had for years and i love 'died'" His wife who was PA with him
rolled her eyes at him and he agreed with her. He was very short
with me after that.He left that practice with no notice to his partner
(that's real professional to your partner and patients) I was relieved to
not see him again and instead stayed with his partner, who I liked better. But
it was always a day long process...wait time in waiting room is hours and then
in exam room forever. PA comes in to ask questions, write out rx and then dr
comes in for 2-3 min. THEN wait for schedule gal to schedule next appt..when she
feels like it.....what a hassle. dont go there anymore!

is giving me isn't working and when I told him I didn't want to take the
injections any more, He kicked me out and said don't come back. NO MEDS WITH NO
REASON AND after two years of service. He said he ain't making no money off of
giving me meds, but he makes $3500-$4000.dollars off of every injections.....

This doctor thinks that he
is the best thing that ever walked. God complex! He only talks and doesn't
listen. Never once asked about me, only TOLD me about him!His office staff does
not follow up at all. The entire visit was a complete waste of time for me and
my wife!Do NOT see this guy unless you just love your pain!
Great doctor if you have time to burn

Dr. Nelson has a great
bedside manner. Its just frustrating to have to wait hours at each appointment.
I Wish I'd Met Him 20 Years Ago!

Dr. Nelson (and staff)
essentially gave me my life back. 20 years of pain meds had turned me into
dependent, tolerant WorkZombie. My social, professional & personal lives
all suffered until I FINALLY took the suggestion of my family doctor. It
worked. PLEASE try pain mgmt & Dr. Nelson. Hope you have the same results!
Good Luck!!!

It is my understanding Dr
Young has left Bluegrass Pain Mgmt. The last three times I've had epidural
injections, a completely unknown physician has administered the procedure. And
I get a bill from something called Mobile Anesthesia. I am changing doctors
which is not difficult as I apparently changed and didn't know it. I am also reporting
this to local physicians review boards here. I believe this practice should not
be allowed.
Nov 15th, 2012
THIS DOCTOR HAS VERY POOR
BED SIDE MANNER. SPENDS NO TIME WITH HIS PATIENTS. HE IS ONLY IN IT FOR THE
MONEY. NO COMPASSION FOR HIS PATIENTS. DON'T EMPATHIZE WITH HIS PATIENTS. STAFF
IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.HE CONTINUES TO HOLD MEDS, NOT REALIZING OR CARING OF
THE WITHDRAWL OR HOW SERIOUS THEY CAN BE. I HONESTLY FEEL THAT SOMEONE NEEDS TO
GO IN UNDER COVER TO VIEW JUST WHAT I HAVE EXPLAINED.

Dr Stephen Young Has
treated me for almost 2 years & I have never been treated so good by any
doctor. To me there isn't a better doctor anywhere!

I haven't got to meet Dr.young and as far as getting an
follow up appt.good luck with that you never get to talk to anyone in the
office cause you have to talk to an answering service and they FAX your request
and you never get a call bk. I wish their were real Dr.s out there to help
people in real pain and quit treating everyone like druggies.

My Pain management Dr
Karrel was excellent, but he closed his practice abruptly, leaving me in panic over not being able to keep my
business going d/t pain. Went to see Dr Young,Lisa ( I believe) his NP, and ALL
of the staff were VERY pleasant, did NOT treat me like I am a junkie, or second
class citizen. VERY HAPPY ! I CAN still have my life and not enough thanks can
be given by me !! Do NOT listen to the detractors. The wait was a little long,
but WELL WORTH IT. I did not think I would be able to find a GOOD PM doctor
and facility as good or caring as Dr Karrel..THANK GOD I was WRONG !! IF
you have LEGITIMATE pain needs, they WILL take care of you in a kind and
professional manner !! THANKS A MILLION !!! Will re rate after next visit, but
do not expect things to go any different as they did today...I'M WORKING my
business !!! ( fist pump)Terry from Shepherdsville

I got my life back thanks to pain management.I can do
more, sleep better and work. Were as before i could do none of these things. All
i did was cry in pain and wish to die so i didnt have to feel it
anymore. But now with the proper treatment.Im doing the things i love
again.Walking, swiming, playing with my kids, working at my job making money
paying my bills and no more pain.Im so thankfull for man ans medication that
they have discovered.I believe it is for us to use and to benifit from. Not to
be afraid of using it. Its helped me so much.Im happier than i was before. Because
pain no longer controls me im in control of it. Thank You!

Went back for my injection. Although my wait was long, I
was very impressed with the entire staff and felt well cared for while having
the procedure. Every step was explained as they did it. I work in healthcare

Would think it would be cool if every six months we could
re-new our contract and go over the rules.Sometimes it is easy to forget what
the rules are.I do know you are not to get the same medication 2 times from 2
different doctors. But i dont get the rest of the rules. After going for many
years it can be easyly to forget what you have singed years ago.You dont want
to or mean to break the rules but, you cna be human and forget.I think a renewl
and someone to go over it would be a good ideal.

I went for my consult
today. I did have a hard time getting an appointment but part of that was my
insurance company problem. I thought the office staff was very nice. Saw Dr
Young's PA first who was very nice. Dr Young was very pleasant and explained
his treatment plan. I will be going back next week for an injection and will
rate again after. Overall my experience today was excellent.

I have been going to
bluegrass pain mangament for over a year and have seen dr young 1 time . I had
to cancel a appointment and it has took 3 months get get someone to call me
back to make another one .
I would NOT reccommend this physician
Apr 5th, 2012
My son is a patient and I
asked to speak with Dr Young before treatment and was told he did not speak
with patient or family before procedures.I have placed 4 calls to office and
never received a call back.I finally called 2 times that day and office called
back about question I had called about a week before. We are not impressed with
this office.Front office staff and operators are very very nice and kind,as for
others no!One employee rolled her eyes while holding the door open for an elderly
man who was not moving fast enough.I know the medical field can be hard to work
in,but please Dr.Young, some of us are there for real pain and please treat us
as individuals,we are not like everyone else.
Racist, egotisical quack
by
Lynn G. on Feb 8th, 2013
Dr. Dunbar is the
Almighty God of doctors, and he
lets you know that first off. He thinks anyone who comes in to see him is
just addicted to pain med. After all, "no one needs dosages this
high" and that "a family doctor has no business giving pain
meds, sleep meds, or depression meds"!!! That is slapping the face
of my family doc, who is a wonderful person and doctor! Dr. Dunbar is
racist. He is black, I am white. He let me know more than once by pointing his
hand at himself when saying the word "black", and then pointing his hand at me when he said "white". He also put me on meds that made me suicidal. I called his office to
tell them, they never called back. He told me that "NO ONE but ME tells
you to stop taking a drug!!" He said that I never called the office and
that he could prove it, because there was no mention of me calling in my chart.
DUH! Didn't I just say that I called multipule times and no one called me
back???? He even said that his staff could verify that I hadn't called. I say
review the phone records and they will see that I called. Avoid this man at all
costs! He has no bedside manner, no care as to what his patients think or feel,
and if you want to commit suicide while on his medicine, he will prove that you
never called him to leave a message, oh, and by the way, my staff can prove
they never called!
DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR!!!

Aug 28th, 2012
First off, I am not a
patient of Dr. Dunbar's. I am the daughter of one of his patients. My mother
would write a review, but she is not of sound mind to write. My mother visited
Dr. Dunbar almost two years ago and since then, my mother has quickly turned
towards the worst. The doctor suggested that she get a pain pump to ease her
arthritis and degenerative disc disease pain in her back. Well my mom, willing
to do anything to ease her pain, followed whatever the doctor told her. Before
she went to see the doctor, she was standing tall and walking still. She is now
hunched over with a walker and barely walking. She has been in the hospital for
renal failure because the doctor put a medicine in her pump that counter acted
with her other medication. She is currently in the hospital because she
developed horrible menegitis and a heart condition. Her symptoms are in black
and white from the list of serious side effects from a drug that is in her pain
pump that the doctor put in. But this doctor is so arrogant that, his drug and
his machine is NOT the cause of her loss of mental psychosis. GET A SECOND OR
THIRD OPINION!!! This doctor should be banned from practicing medicine.
Agree with other reviewers
Jun 17th, 2012
I have only been there for
the inital visit. My PCP sent me to him because of the pinched nerve in my neck
that has caused me pain for many, many years. He was cold, egotistical, and
condesending. Horrible bed side manner! The gal who sets up appointments
was just as bad. Furthermore, they can not (or will not)tell me what they
charge for a epadural steriod injection in my neck. I refuse to let this person
get anywhere near my neck with a needle!
Worst Doctor Experience Ever!
Mar 20th, 2012
If you want to be treated
like a hypocondriac or a drug attic then by all means go see Dr.Dunbar. If you
try to ask a question he will look right at you and say "Are you hearing
what I'm saying" like you are an idiot. How this man has a patient at all
is beyond me...
Mar 14th, 2012
After numerous years of
doctors visits. Dr. Dunbar came highly recommended to me. After several
injections, and no pain relief-I asked for other options.I have never been so
uncomfortable in my life with a doctor. He is rude, arrogant and not helpful.
He does not care what you say and purposely trys to make you feel stupid. I left
his office in tears and will never go back.
Really Good Experience
an 11th, 2012
Dr. Dunbar has been my
dad's pain management doctor for about 3 years after Christopher Nelson left
the practice (I actually think some of these reviewers have confused the 2). He is very patient in listening to my dad, and to me
also. We usually talk a few minutes about what is going on each others lives
each visit. The waiting times at his former location at the Springs Medical Center could be quite lengthy, but since moving to Baptist
Eastpointe has gotten better. Also the staff is outstanding and very caring
and friendly. As tired as my dad is of going to see doctors, going to see Dr.
Dunbar is a good, positive experience.
WHY
IS THIS MAN A DR???
Aug 31st, 2011
I have Rheumatoid
Arthritis, Osteo Arthritis and a pinched nerve in my back. I tried one
injection in my back and did not like the way my headched for days following
and how it did NOTHING to ease my pain! I went in and Dr. Jack A$$ stated there
was NO WAY my pain level could be a 7-8, I was appalled! he then told me my
other dr KNEW NOTHING and made me so upset i cried which at that point he
WALKED OUT ON ME! to say I would never recommend ANYONE to go to him! He lost
my disc of my MRI and I think he believed I only wanted pain meds, which is
completely false! I could have benefited greatly from massage, or aquatics
therapies but BECAUSE HE WAS THE DOCTOR i was supposed to listen and shut up! I
think Elmer Dunbar should retire SOON, that is the reason he is left without
his other practice, he has zero bedside manner and is a big JERK! run the other
way if needing help
Dec 21st, 2010
Complete dissatified with
the wait in the office and his bed side manner. Dr. Dunbar was rude and would
not allow me to elaborate on how my pain was. He would only allow a yes or no
answer. I would not recommend him to anyone.

I hope Dunbar gets
arthritis badly, so he can understand
what it's like. He should get off his power trip and focus on helping, not
lining his pockets. A college education doesn't mean you're intelligent, it
means you're dedicated.
Dr Bunbar is a terrible doctor!!
Apr 20th, 2010
I felt like he didn't even
listen to me. He has no bedside manor at all he does not even look at you when
you are voicing your concerns,oh no you are not suppose to question him! I have
study my illnesses and know what works and does not but no he had to do what
puts the big bucks in his pocket. He has no compassion and make you feel
stupid!!
Doesn't care

Ricky S Collis, MD
All about the money!!!!
Aug 27th, 2012
I am a person who suffers
from Cervical Dystonia which causes severe muscle spasms. Mine affects the
right side of my neck. The spasms pulls my head down towards my shoulder. There
is no cure! The only treatment for me are botox injections, injected directly
into the affected muscle group. And meds. One of which is pain medicine;
hydrocodone. I've seen this doctor 2 times. He never examined me, just stood
across the room thumbing through my file. First visit he explains about
a new legislative ruling just past stating that no more than 2 pills can be
prescribed in a 24 hour period. I said okay. I'm fine with that. Today
during my follow up he again quotes the ruling and states he will refill my
pain medicine 1 more time then he can't help me anymore. He said I don't
meet the criteria for dispensing long term pain medicine according to this
ruling. I said "I have a rare neurological disorder which cause severe
muscle spasms and I don't meet the criteria"? He simply shook his head. I
just cried. He quickly said "I can refer you to a clinic in Indiana but that's about it. You're on botox injections, that
should suffice." I said you know nothing of me or my disorder. You are
ultimately sending me to the ER. He just ripped the referral page out of my
file and handed it to me and walked out the door. When I gave the referral form
to one of his "rude" office staff, she tells me she will contact the
new clinic and see what they will do. Once I got home and the shock had worn
off both me and my husband, I researched the legislative law he was quoting. He
is correct about the 3 month dispense. What he didn't tell me was it is at the
discretion of the physician. If pain medicine is warranted, then he can
continue to prescribe. I am one of those people who has gotten involved
with a Doctor who cares little for his patients. Is only interested in what
service he can offer that cost the most money. He can't make much of a
woman with a disorder that requires monitoring of her pain medicine. With this
being said. I completely understand the need for control for doctors that
dispense pain medicine like candy. Ironically, I am a parent of 2 grown
children that have pill addiction problems. If I were an addict, I could go to
a clinic and get methadone for $7 a dose. I'm not an addict. I am simply
trying to get the proper care I need. Not be treated as though I was a junkie
looking for a fix. Sadly, I don't take a pain pill unless I have too. I take
them because I need to not because I want to. If Collis treated me this way, I
wonder how he is treating other patients.
Great Bedside Manner
Aug 24th, 2011
I had Reflex Sympathetic
Dystrophy which is a very painful condition. Dr Collis explained to me all
about this condition and about the treatment for this. He is very pleasant to
talk to. He changed my medication and performed a series of nerve blocks which
cured me of my pain.
He did a
great job with my pain
Jan 5th, 2011
I had a workers comp injury
and continued to have back and leg pain despite time and rest and therapy. I
was referred to Dr. Collis and he adjusted my medications and did two epidural
blocks. The shots were very easy and really helped. I am back at work and off
all medicines. I sent my dad to him to see if he could help with all his
arthritis pain.
OFFICE STAFF
Nov 18th, 2010
The receptionist answering the
phone was quite rude and impatient! You only get ONE CHANCE to make a first
impression and that's even more important when you are the first person a
patient/customer comes in contact with.
Nov
17th, 2010
DR. Collis was referred to
me by my primar care physician. He did no exam, asked very few questions and
acted as if I were a bother to him after I told him that epidurals no longer
work for my pain. (I have had several over the years and the last three trials
did not work.) He informed me he only gives one type of pain medication even
though that is not effective for my pain. He wrote the script and said he would
see me in two months. I doubt that seriously. I am sure that he is good at
giving epidurals as I have a friend who says he is good at this, but his
bedside manner is lacking and his skills are poor.

Office staff very
unprofessional
The
Worst "doctor" ever seen
by
Lucky to have gotten out alive.... on Feb 10th, 2010
First, he misread my
chart and started preaching about medication. He then informed me (I am 62 yrs
old - have diabetic neuropathy,3 back surgeries, hip replacment,19 broken bones
from an almost fatal car accident)
that he would not prescribe the pain med that helps me. He didn't ask for any
records prior to the appt. instead he literally preached to me about needing to
have them. (every other doc has always requested records prior to 1st appt.)
Then he "informed me without stopping for breath that I needed to see
other specialists for diabetes etc (duh). My wife tried to stop him to let him
know we were aware of that and he was rude to her. When he misread
the amount of my medication to be 270mg of methadone plus 30mg of valium a day
we couldn't help ourselves. We started laughing. That amount of meds would kill
anyone and is crazy. THAT he thought I was
ingesting that daily and walking around is very scary. He apparently knows
very little about medication and the very thing he is supposed to be a
so-called expert with. Again, he was very rude whenever we tried to give
information to him. A doctor that doesn't listen to their patients should not
be praticing medicine. And "practice" is the appropiate word in his
case. This is a mal-pratice case waiting to happen. Someone should stop this
guy before he kills someone.
Great with giving
injections
Jan 27th, 2010
Dr. Collis does a great job with the Epidural blocks. His
staff is great and they really put you at ease. The injections worked great and
I am back to work and off all medicines.
Jan 27th, 2010
Dr. Collis only wants to continue with one medication and
no other. He wants to consistently "wean" medications when the
patient's condition has not changed/improved. Some notes in my chart do not
even pertain to me - they are another patient with oxygen and a cane which I
have never used. This office is just "see as many as you can" without
specific treatment for each patient
Poor is and understatement for this doctor and his staff. No return phone calls sent me into their office. What was said to me by him was absolutely unprofessional and downright NASTY! They told a complete lie about me acting "all crazy" to cover for their mistake, and I was terminated as a patient because of it. The first time it was; x-rays/MRI's never were scheduled this last time after repeated calls to the office concerning this. In and out--felt like I was in a fast food drive-through. MRI's and x-rays were never even scheduled. Was told he couldn't help me and that I wasn't going to get any better. If that was the case I should have been told that on my appointment and no more tests would have been asked for . After my last "visit" I have absolutely nothing at all to say positive about this doctor and his staff.
